Introduction:
Bismarck palm is a very large palm tree that grows about 40 feet tall and 15 feet wide. This particular palm is known for its distinct fronds, an evergreen palm adorned with it's thick trunk and topped by a broad rounded head of stiff, gorgeous, fan-shaped, fronds and intensely steel-blue.
Description:
The Bismarck palm is among the member of the palm family known as the "Arecaceae native" to Madagascar, where it usually grows in open grassland. This genus is named for the first chancellor of the German Empire known as "Otto von Bismarck". The Bismarck Palm is the only species of this genus.
This palm seems to perform alot well in clay soils. The silver-blue leaves pop in the landscape when it is being planted near dark green-leaved plants. The Bismarck palm can either adapt to acidic or alkaline soil. Bismarck Palms edures some drought, and because of their massive crowns, needs plenty of room in a landscape area.
