The writing style is simple, and it reads fast, but the time jumps make it a bit difficult (even harder when I sometimes switch from audiobook + ebook to just audiobook). And a lot of characters, that too. A lot of characters that I don’t really care for... We see a lot of bad relationships and messy lives, not sure how much of that I wanted to see.

Alices story is tragic, but (and it feels a bit unfair to say that) I read a lot of stories like that before?, with a toxic relationship and a woman who is kept small and then turns to alcohol.
so, it feels like in the first part, we got the introduction to Barbaras disappearance, and in the second part to Bears.
I did not care about Carl and of course I dont want him to collapse on the ground of the woods but... I didnt care too much about him as a character, so the end of the part did not feel like a cliffhanger.
The language flows and it is easy to read, so there is that.

I actually enjoyed part 3 more. I think I’ve switched this in my brain from a mystery/thriller to more of a family drama (well, not just family, more general fiction with mystery elements) and it’s more enjoyable that way. That said, those time jumps are still killing me. The way it ties back to Bear’s disappearance. Tracy’s perspective got a bit more interesting. Judy’s introduction brought something new, but at the same time, she is a tiny bit annoying. I wish she was more confident, like she needs to stand her ground, ask questions, and do things. The class divide and people throwing blame around not bad. Didn’t Like: John Paul is a mess. I still don’t care for most of the characters. The pacing with the interviews and investigations dragged and didn't give much.

I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook and that I have never finished one this quickly. At the beginning it was a bit hard to keep track of who was who and the timelines, but I realized it's what kept the book so intriguing. Characters were all tied together in the same mystery and all played a part. I also think it portrayed certain rich people very well and how they manage to get away with things (except at the end thankfully). Not to mention the hate I felt towards Peter. In my opinion it's a well written murder mystery, but I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed when it was revealed what exactly happened to Bear and Barbara. I honestly had expected something grander and complex. All wrapped up this was like a 3.75 ⭐ for me.
