A Cozy Morning Meal Made Better with Backyard Harvests and Lots of Rice

I want to share this fun and simple moment with you all because this morning’s meal made me super full – yes, unli rice level full! After attending Simbang gabi, our stomachs were definitely ready for a satisfying breakfast, and nothing betas a home cooked meal enjoyed at home.

Our food this morning was very special because it came not just from the kitchen but from our own backyard. We have green chili pats growing there and my daughter is always excited whenever its time to harvest. She loves picking the sili herself and for us it’s a simple but meaningful way to teach her responsibility. Seeing her happily harvesting, knowing it will be part of our meal, makes the food even more special.

She picked some fresh green chilies because we planned toa dd the, to our orange tilapia. Yes, orang tilapia! We cooked it pinaksiw, and honestly, lutong bahay really hits different. The sour broth, the fresh fish and the homegrown chili gave the dish such a comforting and flavorful taste. Paired with hot rice, I couldn’t help myself, I really went for unli rice and enjoyed every bite.
As if that wasn’t enough, we also had bananas that I harvested from our own plant few days ago. Best partner for our meal even more complete. From fish to chilies to bananas, everything felt fresh, intentional and full of love.

It was a simple meal, but it brought so much joy. After Simbang Gabi, sharing good food and stories at home reminded me how beautiful these small moments are. Truly happiness can be found in a full plate and a grateful heart.
