The alarming condition of Indian Rivers
0 comments
Indian rivers, once lifelines, are now drowning in pollution. From the Ganges to the Yamuna, they’re clogged with garbage, industrial waste, and untreated sewage. Despite massive clean-up campaigns, the problem persists—because real action takes a backseat to politics.
The Pollution Mess
Take the Yamuna—it’s more sewage than water in Delhi. The Ganges? Billions have been spent on cleaning it, yet it remains filthy. And let’s not forget the lesser-talked-about rivers like Godavari and Krishna, suffering from the same negligence.
Water Wars: Politics Over Solutions
As if pollution wasn’t enough, states keep fighting over river water:
Cauvery Conflict: Tamil Nadu vs. Karnataka—decades of disputes, court cases, and protests.
Punjab vs. Haryana: The SYL Canal remains incomplete because neither wants to compromise.
Krishna-Godavari Mess: Andhra, Telangana, and Maharashtra locked in endless legal battles.
What Needs to Happen
Enough with the excuses.
Enforce strict anti-pollution laws. Industries shouldn’t get a free pass.
Make clean-ups real, not PR stunts. What’s the point if the waste keeps piling up again?
Stop politicizing water. It’s a necessity, not a vote-bank tool.
Rivers are more than just water bodies—they’re our survival. We’ll soon have nothing to fight over if we keep abusing them.
