Exploring Cavazzo Lake (Udine, Italy)

Welcome back to my blog. It’s a pleasure to share with you one of the most beautiful places that I recently visited: Lake Cavazzo. We are in Udine, in Northern Italy, a few hours away from tourist cities such as Trieste and Venice.
It’s the largest lake in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region and is 2250 meters long. It’s also called "Lake of the Three Municipalities" because it is located in the middle of three countries, which are called Cavazzo, Trasaghis and Bordano.

Bentornati sul mio Blog. È un piacere condividere con voi uno dei luoghi più belli che ho visitato di recente: il lago di Cavazzo. Siamo a Udine, nel Nord Italia, a poche ore di distanza da città turistiche come Trieste e Venezia.
Si tratta del lago più grande della regione Friuli-Venezia Giulia ed è lungo ben 2250 metri. Viene chiamato anche “Lago dei tre comuni” perché si trova proprio nel mezzo di tre paesi, che si chiamano Cavazzo, Trasaghis e Bordano.
Many people visit this lake during the summer, because it’s one of the few bathing lakes of Italy. It’s of glacial origin and has very quiet waters, suitable for everyone.
I really liked walking around the whole perimeter of the lake, observing the local fauna and lake plants. The tour lasts about a couple of hours.
Molte persone visitano questo lago durante l’estate, perché è uno dei pochi laghi balneabili d’Italia. È di origine glaciale e presenta acque molto tranquille, adatte a tutti.
Mi è piaciuto molto passeggiare facendo tutto il perimetro del lago, osservando la fauna locale e le piante lacustri. Il giro dura circa un paio d’ore, con tranquillità.
The local guide also explained to us a truly unique curiosity! This lake hosted, in the 70s, a scientific project where 12 people lived for about a month under water! This project was called Atlantis and had the aim of showing that underwater life is possible.
At Lake Cavazzo there are numerous activities that can be done: water sports (canoeing, windsurfing, kayak and fishing), picnic with your family or simple refreshment on the shores of the lake. Some barbecues are also available for a lunch in company.
La guida locale ci ha anche spiegato una curiosità davvero unica! Questo lago ha ospitato, negli anni ’70, un progetto scientifico dove 12 persone hanno vissuto per circa un mese sott’acqua! Questo progetto si chiamava Atlantide e aveva l’obiettivo di dimostrare che la vita sottomarina è possibile.
Al lago di Cavazzo ci sono numerose attività che si possono fare: sport acquatici (canoa, windsurf, kayak e pesca), picnic con la propria famiglia o semplice ristoro sulle sponde del lago. Sono anche disponibili alcuni barbecue per un pranzo in compagnia.
