Solstice is the reason for the season. I have been working late nights, and will continue this week I am sure. The Sun barely rises above the horizon now, from my vantage point in Canada. The days are very short, the nights long and very cold. So cold, it bites in the wind.

I have been wearing my toque, winter coat, and gloves and that makes it survivable. A warm vehicle helps, but any time outside runs the risk of frostbite. I also bought some new boots which are way warmer than my worn out shoes. Today I visited Canadian Tire for a stick-on side mirror. I also went to the Wholesale Superstore to pick up another bag of carrots, peas, and potatoes.
It seems when it comes to potatoes, they are always $10. You can get the tiny bag of tiny potatoes for $5, but a large bag? $10. Or an even larger bag, for $10. or on the wall by the cooler, a HUGE bag of rather large potatoes for $10. So, take your pick. I thought about the $10 bags of smaller russet potatoes on the left, or the larger than usual potatoes on the right. I decided that peeling one giant potato is better than peeling three small ones, at least safer with the sharp peeler. They look good, but they don't last forever. Sometimes there are a few that are already rotten within a week, and I hope that isn't the case this time. They should last longer than that, but such is life.

2025 was a great year. Full of challenges, I had to pay the price. And I am grateful to be able to live, and afford to survive another year on this planet. This year ahead even greater challenges will appear. With perseverance and keeping to my plans I will reach my goals, and discover even greater things to strive for. Some of the things I find really interesting now, I was not into in when I was younger. I always knew though that there would be things that I discovered later.
Right now, we are living in the year 2025, but soon it will be the year 2026. Not much will change, unless the things you do each day change. They say that comfort is the enemy of success. Not everything needs to change either, but there are many things that we don't want to do.
I have been destroying 'doom boxes' and repacking belongings into new more durable boxes. I want to 'audit' my belongings even more carefully this year, and focus on getting rid of all my laundry. No need for 'New Years Resolutions', I know what I need to do this year. Focus, persistence, courage.
Sun, Dec 21, 2025, 8:03 a.m. MST, is when the Solstice peaks. But the sun will return again.
