Gorgeous Ella - Life of a Leonberger - Part 6: Sleep!

The VDH - the German Dog Breeding Association - states, that a dog's need for sleep includes not only nighttime sleep like humans do, but also dozing and resting. These three together sum up to 16 hours of a dog lying around more or less cutely.
My beautiful Leonberger dog Ella really is a pro in this part on meeting the standards!

The "instead of a fire cosy looking dog"

Whenever there is no fire in the fireplace the cold stones in front of it are Ellas favourite place. Because of her thick fur everywhere she even doesn't need a pillow or a mat. This place also provides the best overview so the 5 % guard dog in her genes also is satisfied. Here she very often moves from resting into deep sleep, even snoring.

The "You can not enter the bathroom guard dog"

Whenever I go to the bathroom a few seconds later from inside I hear that typical sound when Ella slides down the wall and crashes her joints on the hard floor to state: "I am here now watching the door". Either her desire to watch every step of mine (I think this idea is much more likely) or the cute idea of guarding me in the bathroom from unwanted disturbance (I like that idea a lot more!) - I don't know her real intention. But she then immediately transfers into the state of dozing.

Also works with other doors by the way.

The "I am bored and so making some funny positions while resting dog"

Just besides family breakfast Ella has to accept that no attention is headed towards her for like an hour. She really tries to win back attention by goofying around then - just pretending to rest.

The "I don't care if there isn't enough space in the room dog"

No matter where I go and stay - Ella will follow me squeezing herself in between walls, furnitures, equipment and most of all on front of doors. She really doesn't care and usually falls asleep immediately.

The even sleeping while I am working hard dog"

Well. You already know the scenery now: A door, me in 1 meter distance, a cold floor, Ella in her favourite cosy position where I sometimes wonder if she will find her way back to a biologically and functional correct assembled dog. Doing this in my office while I am working up to 8 hours in a row.

The "Winter time is best time to sleep outside dog"

Yeah - Its march here on the pic. It's around 5 degrees. Its the first day after the snow melted and the ground dried properly. Ella is enjoying this wheather like other people do enjoy a hot sunny day on the beach. Don't you dare calling her in for dinner! She is really busy sleeping here.

The "f***ck the world I am out dog"

We all have these days. No guarding. No watching. No goofying around. Just peaceful undisturbed sleep.

The "well dressed sleeping dog"

We already talked about the fur, I already mentioned some muddy issues. So this is just consequent after a day outside in rain and dirt to dress properly in order to safe the house from muddy mess. Although Ella hates that bathrobe it will not pretend her from well deserved sleep after a wild playdate in autumn.
