Pickleball Takes Over the Courts (But Not My Back)

Life in the city can be boring at times, so we often find ways to break the monotony. One popular way is through sports, and there are plenty of options to choose from. Despite the many existing sports, we have still managed to invent new ones. One of them is pickleball!
Lately, I have started to notice that tennis and badminton courts around the neighborhood are being repurposed for pickleball-friendly tournaments. Just the other day, I noticed that a group had set up a court for their pickleball practice tournament near a nearby HDB block. It was entertaining to watch, but I do not see myself playing this sport, and I have a few reasons why.
The first thing I noticed is that the net is quite low. I believe it is even lower than tennis and badminton nets. I am not sure why it was designed that way, but the players end up bending down in a rather unusual manner. As I watched the game, I started to feel like my own back was getting tired, LOL. Seeing the players constantly bent over made me feel like I was experiencing the strain with them. Because of this, I do not think pickleball is a sport I will be trying anytime soon.
That said, it is definitely fun to watch, and I imagine it would be even more exciting with highly skilled players.
While I may not be eager to play pickleball myself, I can appreciate the energy and excitement it brings to the community. It's always great to see people staying active and finding joy in new activities. Watching others play has given me a glimpse into why the sport is growing in popularity. Who knows — maybe one day I’ll give it a try. For now, I’ll stick to being a curious spectator from the sidelines.
