My Panagbenga Festival Experience in Baguio

I took a quick break from work to travel to the Philippines and witness one of the country's most impressive festivals—the Panagbenga Festival! This month-long celebration takes place annually in Baguio City, which is why it’s also known as the Baguio Flower Festival.

The festival honors the blooming of flowers throughout the region, and for this trip, I specifically came to experience the Panagbenga Grand Floral Float Parade!

I arrived at Clark Airport on Saturday night, and after a few hours of rest, I took an early morning trip up to Baguio City. I reached the parade venue around 7:00 AM—an hour before the scheduled start. It was no surprise that the place was already packed with tourists eager to witness the event. I even heard that some viewers had spent the night there just to secure a good spot for the Float Parade!

I found a good spot at Igorot Park, where there was plenty of space to move around. However, as the parade time approached, the crowd quickly grew, and I ended up stuck behind a sea of people all trying to squeeze in for a better view.

The crowd control was surprisingly good, considering there were only a few policemen managing hundreds of people in my area.

Once the parade began and the sound of the marching band filled the air with the Panagbenga Festival hymn, even more people crowded into my area. All I could see were cameras and smartphones held high, recording the event.

It’s amazing how creative some viewers are in helping their kids see the parade—they lift them onto their shoulders and have them record the event using their phones.

Here’s an interesting fact about this city—they love country music, and they even have cowboys here!

And so, the floral floats began making their grand entrance!

I heard that 42 floral floats were set to be showcased in the parade, but with the slow pace of the event, I only managed to see about 10 of them. The timing of each float’s appearance was quite slow, and I was already getting tired of my spot. The crowd kept growing, making it even harder for me to see the parade.

Having the chance to witness this event is a check off my bucket list! Now I understand why people from other regions travel all the way to Baguio City to see it in person. Each float in the parade was completely covered in flowers—I’d estimate that millions were used for this event. It was definitely worth the journey to experience it firsthand!

Attending the Panagbenga Festival was an unforgettable experience, filled with vibrant colors, lively music, and an incredible display of creativity. Despite the overwhelming crowd, the breathtaking floral floats made the journey worthwhile. This festival truly showcases the beauty and spirit of Baguio, making it a must-see event for anyone who loves culture, art, and nature.
