Hello Hive gaming community! This is my entry to the latest Community Engagement Challenge - Hidden Gems. It refers to cards that are unappreciated, overlooked, misunderstood. My hidden gems are the cards with no attack.

⚔️🛡️ Why Are The Cards Special? 🛡️⚔️

There are few cards in the Frontier format compared to other formats. These cards stand out or remain obscure because they have no offensive capabilities. Each of the cards have their own way of becoming special.

  • Scales of Justice has tremendous speed and can dodge physical attacks.

  • Codex Sage can use armor to defend against magic.

  • Arcane Curator has an indirect offense. It can deal 2 physical damage to an enemy unit that misses.

  • Spellmonger also has an indirect offense. It can return 2 physical damage to melee attacks.

⚔️🛡️ When Do These Cards Shine? 🛡️⚔️

The no attack cards shine in battles with low mana. They can be an alternative to be used as tanks. They are good in the following rulesets:

  • Equalizer - The initial health of all units is equal to that of the unit on either team with the highest base health. The cards have low health. They can take advantage of Equalizer to increase their health. I will show a battle where I used this strategy.

  • Keep Your Distance - You cannot summon units with melee attacks. Codex Sage, Scales of Justice and Arcane Curator will be most useful as tanks in this ruleset.

  • Maneuvers - All units have Reach (can use melee attacks from the second position). Spellmonger will be most useful in this. Place him in first position to counter melee attacks.

⚔️🛡️ Line Ups and Synergies 🛡️⚔️

Scales of Justice is a good pair for Chaos Furybringer. Scales of Justice in first position and Chaos Furybringer sits at second.

Spellmonger can sit in the middle in the Death element to counter Vengeful Monk.

Codex Sage can team up with magic users as a tank in Keep Your Distance.

Arcane Curator can play tank in low mana battles in the Death element line up.

⚔️🛡️ Battle Where the Cards Carried My Team 🛡️⚔️

The battle is only for 28 mana. I used Fire element because they have many low mana cards. I had both Scales of Justice and Spellmonger in the line up.

  • Scales of Justice has no attack. It is fast and has a high chance to dodge attacks. I put it in first position.

  • Spellmonger also no attack. It can do damage if attacked by melee with its Thorns ability.

  • Ember Roast Sow has one attack for four mana.

  • Echelon also has one attack for four mana.

  • Ash Archer has two attack for five mana.

My no attack cards were the stars in this battle. Scales of Justice dodged attacks many times and Spellmonger took out the opponent's Vengeful Monk.

The battle has Melee Mayhem and Equalizer modifiers. It was the perfect time for Spellmonger to shine.

I put Spellmonger in front. It took advantage of Equalizer and increased its health to eight. Then I put all magic units behind it.

  • Spellmonger has Thorns to return 2 physical damage to attacker with melee.

  • Saltwater mage has 2 magic attack.

  • Lunaki Howler has 1 magic attack.

  • Mystic Scaleweaver legendary has 2 magic attack and Slow ability.

The opponent had mostly melee cards that was bad against Spellmonger. It returned 2 physical attacks against all melee attackers and did much damage to them.
