Moraine Lake is probably the most beautiful lake in the world. While other lakes sure are stunning, especially high up in the mountains, this one in particular is loved because it is surrounded by tens of thousands of square kilometers of protected land. There are no cottages on this lake, there is no one living here, there are no farms or factories, it is all one hundred percent nature. Moraine Lake is found high up in Banff National Park, Alberta Canada.

You can not drive here, they blocked private vehicle access to preserve the peace. To get here one must take a bus or a private tour. The best bus seats sell out fast so best go to Parks Canada and reserve a spot. The bus also passes by Lake Louise where there is parking but it's $36.75, even for fifteen minutes. The better option is to pay eight dollars per person and see Moraine Lake too.

This photo is filtered courtesy of Ray-Bans. Alberta is very sunny so pack your sunglasses. They make everything look so much better anyways and if they are polarized you should not have any trouble spotting fish in the waters.

They do allow permits to fish for trout in these lakes but it is not always allowed and there are significant restrictions. Kayaking and Canoeing is the more popular water sport. It is far too cold for all but the most brave to swim and the views one gets from the water are parallel to none.

Most tourists come here to take in the views and enjoy the fresh mountain air. These photos were taken in early July, not long after the ice melted on the lake. You can still see a lot of snow up in the mountains. Some of this snow is tens of thousands of years old and would be otherwise called a glacier, meaning it doesn't melt and sits there all year.

The water is filled with minerals and gets its unique colour from the melting snow and ice from the surrounding peaks. It is not clear because there is so much sediment. The blues and greens are a sight to behold.

This is looking back from the lake as you can see, it is really in the middle of nowhere. Calgary is a two hour drive and the lake is within walking distance of nothing. There are just endless expanses of nature.

Crowds flock to the lake and pleasure craft are available to rent. Bring your credit card and stand in line, this isn't cheap but it sure is popular. There is no where else where you can get such an experience and almost any price is worth it.

The views are free and there are many hiking paths in the area. We went on a hike that day to Consolation Lake which would be around the peaks to the left. I will share the post one day. There are just too many adventures to write about and so much to explore. Thanks for reading and happy holidays!
