Gasping and panting, we hold our breath with the remaining strides approaching the summit of the El Nido Canopy Walk. As we reached the top, the community feels like an expanded village in a broad daylight underneath our eyes. Boats used for island hopping blend with the blue and green waters of Bacuit Bay, harmonizing the silhouette of the houses on the shore. Mountains in the heart of the sea look like a skyscraper under the traffic of blue wavy cars unbothered, calm, and in harmony. This bizarre place with its animated-like scenery is truly delightful to watch alive and kicking. It was a fantastic view best enjoyedwith your travel buddy.

𝓗𝓮𝓵𝓵𝓸 𝓗𝓲𝓿𝓮 𝓒𝓸𝓶𝓶𝓾𝓷𝓲𝓽𝔂!, it’s me Marycris! Before we take you to the enchanting islet of Capitancillo for our pre nup shoot, let me first tell you about our Canopy Walk experience during our trip to El Nido. Let’s start!

The El Nido's Canopy Walk viewpoint.

While scouting out for possible activities to do while preparing for our trip, we happen to read about this Canopy Walk so Niño was telling me that maybe we could try on it. Well for us, Niño is adventurous than me since I have some motion sickness thingy and fear of heights but I still agree since I want to try it too. Anyways, to those who are fond of hiking and climbing this would be a to do list upon visiting El Nido aside from exploring beaches, joining tours and partying at night.

During our last day in El Nido around 02:00 PM, we set off to the office of El Nido’s Canopy walk. Actually, you have two options: either to book it in advance or just turn up on the day and for us, it happens that their office was just a walking distance from our accommodation so we just walked in. Upon reaching the office, we paid for the activity at 500 php ( $10) each and this includes a harness, helmet and a guide. You have the option to access the cliff’s viewdeck through canopy walk and the dreamcatcher (400 php / $8 each ) but we only chose the canopy walk since we were in a tight budget that time.😁 We were given a safety orientation and asked to sign a waiver prior from undergoing the activity.

Picture first before starting the activity.

We started the activity in an open hut and passed by wooden footpaths surrounded by a swamp. Our guide recommended us to wear shoes and gladly I bought a pair of shoes during our travel and was wearing one that time since rocks there are sharps. There are parts of the pathway which are slippery maybe because it was raining the other day that time.

The start of the activity.

The first part of the climb was unexpectedly hard! With a nearly vertical incline, we had to make sure that each of our every step wasproperly executed before stepping our foot down. Which naively reminded me of how sedentary my life was. We keep on climbing until we reached the entrance of a hanging bridge.

The Hanging Bridge.

For people like me who are afraid of heights, THE SEVENTY FIVE METERS LONG HANGING BRIDGE IS REALLY NO JOKE, this is a very struggle on my part. LOL. I was planning on backing out while I was on the moment but Niño and the guide pushed me to do so. They were both saying “Kaya ra lage na nimo” in English “You can do it!” We had an amazing guide by the way but really sorry we forgot his name. So with shaking knees, I am now conquering my fear of crossing hanging bridges.

My plastic smile before crossing the seven five meters long hanging bridge. LOL.

Yeyy!! I conquered the hanging bridge now it’s time for the next level!

Earlier, hanging bridge, now, stairs. OMG! This is not really what I signed up for! People who are close to me know that I am the “LADY WHO IS ALLERGIC TO STAIRS". I don’t know why, but I will get dizzy and feel nausea everytime I climb stairs. But there’s no turning back, it’s time to face my fears. Now, the way was set with some metal-platforms, railings and stairs known as Ferrata that almost made me cry while seeing it - suspended over the sharp rocks underneath us. As we continued on with the ferrata, I realized that this is a great invention because it could have been very dangerous without these since rocks are very edgy and cut you off so we still take extra precautions.

"Ferrata", the name of the company, is actually an Italian word used to indicate a route leading up a mountain or trail that’s equipped with steel cables, ladders and anchor walkways for easier navigation for inexperienced climbers.

The Ferrata.

I’m so grateful that my body cooperated that time that I don’t feel very nauseous upon climbing the ferrata maybe because of the stunning views behind us and my eagerness to come at the top.

Stunning views during the climb.

Please excuse my haggard face while catching up my breath reaching towards the top!😂

I'm Almost there!

After about thirty minutes of climbing, walking and enjoying the view, we finally made it to the top! If you are like me with an acrophobia, I can say that conquering your fear of heights is super worth it as you get really a spectacular view. The best views come after the hardest climb INDEED!

At last! The viewpoint.

The guide took really good care of us and ensured our harness and helmet were properly set up. And more importantly, he is an excellent photographer! He was the one commanding us where should we stand and pose. For safety purposes, we were only allowed to take off our helmets during picture taking at the viewpoint. We asked our guide how long can we stay there and said that we can stay as long as we’d like to. So it's time for picture taking and selfies!

TIME FOR PICTURE TAKING / SELFIES!

We spent an hour at the topview of El Nido’s Canopy Walk before going back down and that was again another round of battling my fear of heights and stairs.

Over all, it was worth doing, not an easy climb for me but it was doable and the view was just very breathtaking! So if you are planning to visit El Nido don’t forget to include this on your bucketlist. That’s it! That was our experience. I hope you enjoying reading this post and see you on our next blog.
