Kopi Talua, or Egg Coffee, is a beloved traditional beverage from West Sumatra, Indonesia. This unique drink melds luxury and tradition, combining rich, aromatic coffee with a sweet, airy egg foam and creamy condensed milk. The result is a smooth, frothy delight perfect for indulging during leisure moments.

Ingredients

ā˜•ļø 18 g ground coffee beans, MANTAPP delta
🄚 1 egg yolk
šŸ¬ 15 g granulated sugar
šŸ’§ 250 ml hot water
🄫 A few tablespoons sweetened condensed milk, brand unspecified


Instructions

1- Grind and Brew:

  • Begin by grinding the coffee beans into a fine powder using a manual coffee grinder.
  • Measure 18 grams of the ground coffee using a digital kitchen scale, Kris Chef.
  • Pour 250 ml of hot water over the coffee in a glass measuring cup and stir well until thoroughly mixed.

2- Egg Preparation:

  • Place the whole egg in a small pot or mug and pour hot water over it to sterilize the surface.
  • Carefully separate the yolk from the egg white, using a small plate for separation, discarding or reserving the white for other uses.

3- Foam Creation:

  • Add 15 grams of granulated sugar to the egg yolk in a separate bowl or the measuring cup.
  • Vigorously whisk the egg yolk and sugar mixture with a small whisk until it becomes light-colored and frothy.

4- Assembly:

  • Pour the desired amount of sweetened condensed milk into the bottom of a clear glass serving vessel.
  • Gently add the brewed coffee atop the condensed milk, allowing it to form a distinct layer.
  • Carefully spoon the whisked egg yolk and sugar foam over the coffee layer.
  • Optionally, you can garnish with a sprinkle of fine coffee grounds.

5- Enjoy:

  • Serve immediately, enjoying the enticing layers and flavors.
