Upcoming 1000th run for one of our members in Chiang Mai

It is extremely rare that someone even makes it to 100 runs with the Hash House Harriers but on November 10th we will have a run that is just a run but it is also going to be celebrating something that has never happened in Chiang Mai Hashing before, we will be celebrating a member's 1000th run with the Hash House Harriers.

There is a certain level of anonymity that goes into the Hash House Harriers and most of us only know one another by their Hash name. I also don't know how "Superman" (his Hash name) feels about his image getting put online so I will just say that he is one of the longest running members of our group here and that he has been absolutely massively involved in organizing just about everything that we do here, especially when it comes to the Saturday Hash we have each week and he has been the GM of that particular part of what we do here, many times.
When you think about how difficult it would be to get to 1000 runs just keep in mind that if he, or you, or anyone, were to attend every single event that we do here it would only be possible to get 150 runs or so in per year and no, "Superman" does not attend every single event.
He is an older fella now, but just like a lot of the old boys in our midst, he manages to stay in reasonably good health mostly because of the fact that he is involved in the Hash House Harriers. This is a benefit that I have talked about on many occasions. Sure, we drink beer at our events, but only after doing about an hour worth of exercise. Also, when someone sets the trail, they probably walked at least 10km planning it and organizing it, so when you think about it this is actually a pretty great way to keep your health in check, especially if you are older.

I don't have any idea how old "Superman" is, but he is no spring chicken, as they say and to me the fact that he gets out there and does this sort of exercise at his rather advanced age is pretty darn impressive to me.

This guy, who is one of our longest standing members, has just over 600 runs. Imagine having 400 more!
To my knowledge, there isn't a single other member of our group that has 1000 runs and there are only a few that have 500. If we had a senior member in our midst, it would definitely be him.
So while you may not know him personally, hopefully you can join me in celebrating this really momentous milestone that so few Hashers have ever accomplished. This is really something else and if you happen to be in the Chiang Mai area on the 10th of November, you do not need to know "Superman" or even be a member to come and join in with us in this event.
As always, full details are available at our
On On!
