Splinterlands Frontier Mode - A Lesson for Web3 Gaming
2 comments
Good morning Splinterfriends!
I have a simple observation, with a powerful implication...
As we have seen... Frontier Mode in @splinterlands has been amazing! There has been a TON of Battles - New Players, Salty Vets and OG's alike!
With that being said, this may be one of my shortest posts... but I ASSURE you... it may also be the most valuable... are you ready for the observation????
Well I'm not!! I have something else to show you first 😝
Woah, woah - take it easy!! I won't keep you in suspense for long! I'm not a clickbait article or anything!!! Sheesh.
Ok so look - Frontier has seen a HUGE uptick in both Players and Battles right? Subjectively, I believe we could all say that Frontier is both "Fun" and "Challenging"... with many matches coming down to 1HP or RNG of "who goes first"!!!
With that being said - check this out:
That's almost a Max Frontier Set - I'm missing a few Epic/Legendary cards but since they don't get played that often, I am not going to stress about them...
Now, I do have a mix of GF and RF - sometimes a GF card would cost around the same as buying the RF versions!
But notice the key to all of this:
A nearly max Foundation Set for Frontier Mode... is LESS THAN $500 and that includes the $95 "Value" of the Black Foil Grand Consul Minion aka "The Nanner Chucker"!!!
So really - $400 for a "Max Foundation Set"...
So you can play Frontier at the TOP level and yet... it's like $400 or less to do it... AND... it's the most popular Ranked Mode by play volume... PLUS the Rewards are awesome - Packs & Raffles?!? I mean, look at what I won last week!!
I think you can see the point I am about to make...
Frontier Mode = Awesome... but why???
- FREE TO PLAY
- Fun & Challenging
- Great Prize Support
- Low Cost to Play at MAX LEVEL
For a lot of people $400 is VERY expensive... and that includes me! I mean, I need new shoes... but I'm not about to drop $150 on them... I'll just wait another couple weeks and squeeze a few more uses out of mine even though my feet/knees/back hurt lol
But compare that $400 to OWNING a Modern Deck to play with...
Congratulations!! For your $400... you get a Tofu... and have $42 left over.
The lesson I hope everyone sees - Splinterlands, Hive, Game Devs, Players and more... is this:
The biggest turnoff for me, about Modern - is the sheer cost involved in playing it at a high level... I doubt I'll ever be able to afford it.
I mean, look at these Common Prices - and these are the "Need" Cards to play well...
While I am competitive... I don't mind losing when I am out played... I DETEST losing simply because they bought higher level cards...
However... with more Foundation Cards coming and expanding Frontier Mode gameplay - I am EXCITED to play again!! Come find your boi Dingus at the top of the heap in Frontier and test yer mettle against me!!
So... let me say it again... one last time... Expensive =/= "Fun & Challenging"... 😄
That's all I have for you today folks!! Thank you for reading and I would LOVE for you to join me in game!!

Naturally, after everything leading up to this moment, I believe Splinterlands is one of the BEST web3 games out there!
It brings the #play2earn feature to the forefront of development as well as many opportunities for people to earn rewards - whether Player or Investor!!
