Carl Sagan Tries To Make A Veiled Argument Against Christianity - What A Silly and Unscientific Thing To Do

Carl Sagan - The Demon Haunted World
"A fire-breathing dragon lives in my garage" Suppose I seriously make such an assertion to you. Surely you'd want to check it out, see for yourself. There have been innumerable stories of dragons over the centuries, but no real evidence. What an opportunity! "Show me," you say. I lead you to my garage. You look inside and see a ladder, empty paint cans, an old tricycle--but no dragon. "Where's the dragon?" you ask. "Oh, she's right here," I reply, waving vaguely. "I neglected to mention that she's an invisible dragon." You propose spreading flour on the floor of the garage to capture the dragon's footprints. "Good idea," I say, "but this dragon floats in the air." Then you'll use an infrared sensor to detect the invisible fire. "Good idea, but the invisible fire is also heatless." You'll spray-paint the dragon and make her visible. "Good idea, but she's an incorporeal dragon and the paint won't stick." And so on. I counter every physical test you propose with a special explanation of why it won't work. And so the story goes, is there any difference between their being an invisible, floating, incorpreal dragon and no dragon at all? |

And this is kind of interesting mental gymnastics to work through...
right up to the point where you start seeing the dragon too.

Carl Sagan's fight against reality
Carl Sagan, here, is of course "indirectly" attacking Christianity. To him, those "idiots" over there believe in an invisible sky god. Which is stupid, because if you can't tell the difference between real and what is just in your head, then you are just delusional.
Seems logical, right? Well, actually no.
What about the statement, "God exists, and this entire universe is God dreaming, and that is what is real, and we will be gone at any whim of God"?
Seems logical, right? Well, it depends on how your predilections flow in your mind.
The problem is that Modern Materialistic Science is practising science with its eyes and ears closed. It is ignoring HUGE amounts of data, research and evidence. Because, the same people who point out that we used to not see microbes, are the same people saying, "Well, we can't see it and experiment on it, so it doesn't exist".
Is it truly appropriate to ignore all kinds of data because it does not jive with your sensibilities?
Carl Sagan is stating, "Either i am blind, or this guy with a dragon is insane." What a choice that Modern Materialistic Science has mistakenly forced us into.

The mistaken choice
Instead of saying that a huge proportion of the population believes in God, and that is something that should be seriously looked into, we have the "scientific" class saying, those people are stupid, or insane.
They could say that "we do not know", or "there really seems to be something here", or "you believe what you believe, and i will believe in nothing". But none of these options are allowed by the framing of the question.
And then Modern Materialistic Scientists have to go to extremes to explain how everything came about without a God.
The "multiple universe model" because scientists have found that the constants of the universe are so fine tuned, that they couldn't be even a little bit off, and have us still exist. So, these scientist created the idea of millions (or billions) of universes that collapsed or flew apart, and we just happened to be the one lucky one.
And then they say, "Give us one miracle" and we can explain the rest of the universe. But they can't, because there is no way an explosion of ALL the matter turned out so orderly. (but, we have only started noticing)
If it was just a simple choice, a simple question, why would scientists go to insane lengths to find a solution in that they do not have to admit that there is a God? And, i mean they have to go through serious contortions to write God out of the equation.

Physics and Metaphysics are not separate
Physicists, especially Quantum Physicists are discovering more and more that the world is not as real or solid as they thought it was.
Entangled particles and Quantum Tunnelling are two repeatable phenomena that simply destroy the world of those who believe atoms are real, and that as Einstein said, "Spooky action at a distance cannot exist", but it does. Sorry Einstein, Borr won.
And then science is discovering that there is much more to reality than just the physical.
People affecting dice rolls. People being able to tell who is about to call them. People able to sense that they are being looked at. And many other psychic abilities are being analyzed and cateloged. They aren't sure what is happening, but they are sure that it is not random chance.
There is much more going on. And bouncing balls in a clockwork universe that is running down does not even begin to explain it.

And then you start seeing it too.
A way to prove that thoughts do not happen in the brain is to teach people to meditate and to have an out of body experience. Everyone who gets to that level, KNOWS that thought is not happening inside the brain. And this has been backed up with EKG recordings and other signs.
Further, through meditation you can start to see the "fire-breathing dragon". Not just see the dragon, but interact with it. Talk with it. Toast marshmallows together… And most people who meditate can do the same.
Those who do not meditate will never see the "fire-breathing dragon", and so, they will argue for the rest of their lives that there is no "fire-breathing dragon".
So, what is one supposed to do? If scientists refuse to open their eyes, then they will never see.
And we have Modern Materialistic Science refusing to open their eyes. Do we start to ignore them, and continue studying reality without them? Right now they own the ivory towers and the book publishers, and so have a stranglehold on what information is allowed to be disseminated. But this is coming to an end.
Both Modern Materialistic Science and Christianity are waning. In the future, we are going to have spirituality where people are encouraged to find God themselves. And we are going to have science that works with multiple dimensions and energies that are considered woo-woo today.
The argument that Carl Sagan brought up will be seen as just silly. Of course the answer is for Carl to learn to interact with the dragon, instead of trying to devise silly tests to see if it is there.
