One of the most annoying sets of people I’ve come across are those who really don’t hold any loyalties to whatever cause they’ve identified with. I’m talking about the kind of people who only feel like their opinions are the smartest and what is needed to move things forward, and thus, if anyone tries to bring something contradictory up, they would be against it.

Like, these are people who will rather hold onto pride than actually let everyone grow. They take it personally when their ideas are dumped in favor of someone else’s, and they see it as a form of betrayal because, as far as they’re concerned, their ideas are the only ones that will ever be worth implementing. So, when they’re not followed, it’s seen as an insult to their person.

And as a result, you find them leaving entirely. Everything they’ve done in the past is just forgotten because of one moment of anger. Many times, I wonder what exactly they think when they make these moves, like are they expecting that everyone will pause all activities and come beg them to change their minds? These childish behaviors are nothing but annoying when full-grown adults do them.

Yeah, I know that there can be reasons for leaving projects that one has invested so much in. Disrespect is a good reason. When it becomes toxic and unsafe for you, especially when people are not ready to make adjustments for your uncertainties, then you have a justifiable reason to quit and move on with your life. No one will fault you for it. But leaving just because an idea of yours wasn’t taken?

This thing just happened in a society I’m a member of in church. Previously five members, there was an urgent need for more members so that the individual tasks that we had to do would be reduced and easier for all of us. But this guy was against the idea, he felt that having more people join us would send us into the classic case of “too many cooks spoiling the broth”. As few as we were, handling the group would be easier because of our small numbers. He wanted us to take on more roles to make it work.

But, bro was forgetting that a lot of us actually have work to do. He has a supermarket, but his wife mostly runs it, he also has some rental properties that he inherited, so money is always coming in from there. It won’t be a stretch to say that money is not this guy’s problem. So, he was using his situation as a yardstick for us to adjust to. Just because he had a lot of time on his hands didn’t mean we had the same.

Well, we put it to a vote, and everyone else agreed that we should get new members. And that was how bro just got up and left the meeting. Just like that. No quarrel, nothing! He was just hurt that we didn’t go with his idea. We also agreed not to accept him back even if he came back later, because now we’ve had enough members who are willing to work, making it easier for everyone. Having someone like him on the team would mean having to find his replacements every two weeks, and that’s not a problem we’re looking to go through.

So yeah, good riddance to bad rubbish. I just hope that people will be able to understand that just because an idea sounds fabulous and logical to them doesn’t mean that others will see it that way. So, they should always be open to the fact that people could oppose them, they would have to defend their ideas, and even worse, abandon the idea altogether.

That’s life.
