Inventing a balcony ornament while reflecting. (WEEK 238)

Creativity is a great tool for using or reusing things we have, but also for life in general.

A while ago someone we know in the family moved house and there were a lot of things she couldn't take with her in the move. One of those things were two very strange lamps.

They consisted of two large ropes, about a metre long, but quite thick, with knots from time to time along the way, and at the bottom they had a sort of black support from which a large light bulb was hooked. A style that mixes modern and rustic.

Actually, those lamps don't really match the style of my home and I wouldn't know where to put them, but I had them there and when the Christmas decorations were coming up, my mother wanted to have something handmade on the balcony and I thought of using those big ropes.

So I started looking around the house for things that sparked my creativity. For example, some flowers that I had bought a few years ago to make some centrepieces, which I had taken apart before. I chose the silver flowers.

Then, from the large number of Christmas balls I had over the years, I chose the purple or violet ones for the tree and as these are some opaque, others shiny and others with textures, I placed them along the length of the rope and in the spaces between them I put the flowers.

In the place where the bulb was I placed a piece of silver garland, which I had previously cut into pieces. It turned out very beautiful, at least to my taste and I reused materials I had at home to make something totally new. I used one of my skills which is creativity.

Purple means change and this year 2024 has been a year of many changes, comings and goings. It has been a year of very hard things that I had to go through, but also very good things came and I like to focus on them.

The renovation of old things into new ones, the new projects that start from old ones, as well as this Christmas decoration.

Normally I take stock on my birthday, that day for me starts a new year, but this time it was different, I started to think about everything that happened, the tears shed and the smiles made and given. It has been a strong year of hard work and effort and I have achieved many of my goals.

And I thought about the coming year, and that same creativity that made this decoration is from which ideas arise and also how to reformulate old ideas, to take up again paths that I left suspended but that now I found the way to go through them. A new goal, a new enterprise, because I like to diversify and when one of them is on track, is an adult and can walk alone, I like to create a new child... a new path.
