My experience in the writing tournament

Today I want to share my experience in the typewriter writing tournament, as participating in this writing tournament was a challenging and exciting experience at the same time. From the very first moment I knew it wouldn't be easy: the challenge consisted of overcoming five exercises, each with its own demands. To make it even more complicated, the organizers intentionally kept the environment full of distractions, talking and explaining out loud, while we tried to concentrate. It wasn't the best environment for writing, but that was also part of the test: staying focused no matter what.
Two of the exercises were creative writing exercises. One required constructing a narrative text about the encounter with the typewriter in just a few lines and in ten minutes, without much time for inspiration. The other asked for a poetic tone to write verses or phrases beginning with the word Leo and conveying emotion and rhythm. I threw myself into writing, letting the ideas flow without stopping too long to think, trusting the connection between my thoughts and the keys. To my satisfaction, I succeeded in both challenges and won both categories.

Hoy quiero compartir mi experiencia en el torneo de escritura en máquina de escribir, pues participar en este torneo de escritura fue una experiencia retadora y emocionante al mismo tiempo. Desde el primer momento supe que no sería sencillo: el reto consistía en superar cinco ejercicios, cada uno con sus propias exigencias. Para hacerlo aún más complicado, los organizadores, de manera intencional, mantenían un ambiente lleno de distracciones, hablando y explicando en voz alta, mientras tratábamos de concentrarnos. No era el mejor entorno para escribir, pero eso también formaba parte de la prueba: mantenerse enfocado a pesar de todo.
Dos de los ejercicios eran de escritura creativa. Uno exigía construir un texto narrativo sobre el encuentro con la máquina de escribir en apenas unas líneas y en diez minutos, sin mucho tiempo para inspirarme. El otro pedía un tono poético para escribir versos o frases que comenzaran con la palabra Leo y que transmitieran emoción y ritmo. Me lancé a escribir dejando que las ideas fluyeran sin detenerme demasiado a pensar, confiando en la conexión entre mis pensamientos y las teclas. Para mi satisfacción, logré salir airosa de ambos retos y gané estas dos categorías.

The third exercise in which I triumphed was the transcription exercise: in only ten minutes I had to copy a text as quickly as possible, without errors and completely. I managed to write everything except the last sentence, but even so my performance was the best and I managed to win in this category as well.
Out of five exercises, I won three. I share them here so that they will be preserved in time as they came up. At some point I would like to improve and expand them. Now, beyond the awards, it was an enormous pride to have demonstrated that I could adapt to the most unexpected conditions and bring out the best in myself. Competing with a typewriter, feeling the clacking of the keys under my fingers and holding my ground amidst the bustle was a true test of concentration and passion for letters. An experience I would definitely repeat.
El tercer ejercicio en el que triunfé fue el de transcripción: en solo diez minutos debía copiar un texto lo más rápido posible, sin errores y de manera completa. Alcancé a escribir todo excepto la última oración, pero aun así mi desempeño fue el mejor y logré llevarme la victoria también en esta categoría.
De cinco ejercicios, gané tres. Los comparto por aquí para que se conserven en el tiempo tal cual como surgieron. En algún momento me gustaría mejorarlos y ampliarlos. Ahora, más allá de los premios, fue un enorme orgullo haber demostrado que podía adaptarme a las condiciones más inesperadas y sacar lo mejor de mí. Competir con una máquina de escribir, sentir el golpeteo de las teclas bajo mis dedos y mantenerme firme entre el bullicio fue una verdadera prueba de concentración y pasión por las letras. Una experiencia que, sin duda, repetiría.
