SEA GENIE

A pixelart animation of Sea Genie from the Splinterlands game.
Here is the lore of Sea Genie from Splinterlands:

The Sea Genie simply waits quietly in his dark, deep lair at the foot of Maka Peak. He is the only resident of the Cave of Mysteries, a powerhouse of magical force. The Genie was first summoned hundreds of years ago, and now he is prisoner to the ΛZMΛRÉ summoners, doing only their bidding and little else

It has the same characteristics with the genie that is known to us. Wherein if you found a magical lamp you just have to wipe it then a magical genie will appear. Which will give you three wishes. But this one is a Sea Genie. I wonder if it also do the same aside from its super power. Maybe the sea creatures are the one that can wish from it.

PROOF OF WORK

I started on creating the outline of its head and body. For the body I tried using symmetry. But the option for it was not available in the pixelart app. I am not sure if it was updated and changed into a new location. Or it was totally removed. I had to manually do symmetry by copying the other half and then flipping it to the other side. Just like here in this picture.

Next is the arms of Sea Genie. This was a challenge for me. I took most of the time creating the proper position of the arms. Creating cross arms is my weakness for creating a character. Which is why I usually create arms freely on each side. But I have to take the challenge since the character looks more appropriate in a cross arm position. Plus it will look nice on the animation part.

After the challenging arms. I created the clothes of Sea Genie. The same concept or strategy with its body. I manually created a symmetry for the clothes by using the copy and flip option.

This is how it looks like when flipped vertically.

Creating the cover for its head. I added some slanted lines to mimic the covered cloth on its head. This lines will show several layers of clothes being wrapped around its head. I will also use shadings and shadows for this one to create a depth.

Adding details on its face. Like its moustache, eyes, nose, eye brows, and mouth. I tried using black ink for its whole moustache and beard. But it does not look good. I used a skin tone color to have a contrast from the outline and beard.

The outline of the Character is done. Proceed on coloring its body. I started on using the base colors for the whole character. Later on I will use lighter or darker tones for the shadows.

Coloring the clothes and accessories of Sea Genie. Still using the base color of the character.

Adding a color at the background. This will help me to easily see the character and spot the uncolored part. As you can see, I also added some shadows on its bottom part. I have also colored the beard and moustache with the skin tone color.

Adding shadows and highlights for the character. This time I found a new useful tool in the Pixilart. The LIGHTEN/DARKEN TOOL. It is a convenient tool for adding shadows and highlights. It was there for a very long time yet I did not care to use it. But it was very useful when I found the use of it. I can now easily add shadows without manually adjusting the shade colors. Which I usually do in my previous pixel arts.

I have added some details for the background. These are vines or some weeds that can be found at the sea, since it is a sea genie. The location of the character could mean that it is at the Sea.

For the animation part, I move the character per frame vertically. Then adjusted the frame speed to get the appropriate movement of the character.
