Lore

The mushroom king(or queen they don't care which you honorific you use. Emperor and Empress is also acceptable.) lingers in the dark and damp places of the world listening to the rumours and tales brought to them by mushrooms around the world. They don't rule so much as be a central place of gossip. Mushrooms as a people, both the regular and those who are mobile and more sentient do not need much from a ruler. They're not really sure what a ruler is supposed to do exactly since they got the idea from humans and didn't really pick up much beyond the whole wearing a crown thing.

Drawing process

I started with a bunch of sketchs and landed on this one for the sense of space. It took me several times to finally get a sense of
depth.

After that I made the background dark since I wanted it to look like it was underground/dark.

Then I added more details and more mushrooms. I looked up different mushrooms that grow in the dark and based them off those.

After that I did some base colours.

Then I decided I wanted it even darker as I added in some green stuff that was supposed to look like moss.

From there I added the lights and tried to use that to give shape to the cavern.

At this point I realized the water being blue didn't really make sense since there was no sky for it to be reflecting.

After I'd done playing with the water I started working on the king. I had started doing layers like human clothing but decided to make the whole body a big Morale mushroom. Which was actully super fun. I love the different textures of mushrooms. I also gave em a crown of glowing mushrooms.

After that I added the single green eye to the king, and also played with the water some more. But I also messed up some things in the maintime. (like the mushrooms losing thir lines on the right)

So with some more tweaking. Mostly adding some more bright greens and some darks to give the mushrooms a little more depth.
