My New Little Flower Garden - Just Starting Out

The other week I saw this post on fb and asked my husband where I could make something similar. He suggested a few locations, and I chose a small space underneath our bedroom window. So here is the inspiration:

This is how the area started out - tons and tons of weeds, quite a bit of trash, some stuff that hadn't made it to its final home (like the workout bench), and even a potted ornamental ginger.

Progress of the first afternoon involved getting about half of the area cleaned of weeds. This is not my favorite job.

By the next day, all of the weeds were out of there and had been moved to my compost pile. The soil all looked pretty good!

There is a little concrete slab in part of the area, and over the years it had been covered in dirt and weeds. I started scraping that off with the shovel and putting it into the space that will be the garden. I also cleared a little more of the pathway so I can (maybe) eventually add some small rocks to make a pathway.

Next I grabbed the wheelbarrow and found some concrete blocks (4 at a time). I made 3 trips and I was thinking if I had to do another, I'd have to ask the boys to help!

I tried to level out all of the dirt and even put it in the concrete block holes. I liked how it was turning out!

We went to our neighbor's house and got some cuttings. I also added some seeds that my parents had sent me for my birthday - Zinnias. There are some irises and I'm not sure what the others are!

The block holes have some purslane plants I've been growing for a long time in pots. They've never been happy, so I'm hoping this will work out better.

If all of them grow, it's going to be pretty packed in the little garden, but it will look amazing! I just have to keep the weeds and grass out of it!

I can't wait to see how it looks as everything grows and fills out a little more! I will update if it looks good in the future! πŸ˜… Lots of sweat equity was put into this little garden.
