How are you all doing, friends? I'm doing well. I hope you're looking forward to a new drawing because I just finished another one for someone today. For whom? For you, of course! You're my friends, so these drawings are for you. 😅 Joking aside, today I drew the Sanga Bass Drum. This is a drum that belongs to the Rising Star instruments. This particular one is part of the i244 deck.

The Sanga Bass Drum, friends, is an African drum, similar to the ones we've seen in drawings from previous weeks. It has a barrel shape with several straps around it to keep the membranes in place. These straps also give it a distinctive look. It's played mainly in places like Uganda. In those regions, people have a lot of respect for it, and not just for playing music. They respect it because it has cultural uses and origins deeply rooted in traditional celebrations. For example, you might see someone playing it at weddings, which would be the most joyful occasion, and also at parties and things like that.

But it's used a lot in funeral ceremonies to bid farewell to the deceased with honor. It's like a goodbye. That's why it's treated with so much respect. It's even often used as part of the nation's religious festivals, since it's part of the local identity. I'm fascinated by all this about the local culture of all these places and how they use the instruments. In Rising Star, I've learned a lot by researching the available instruments.

I haven't heard much of the Sanga Bass Drum because it's not used much in my country, but I have heard it, and its music is great. African music in general is spectacular. You should listen to some if you never have. Friends, I hope you've seen the drawing from beginning to end, and if you've made it this far, I want to thank you for dedicating your time to me, looking at my drawings, and reading my blog. I'll be back soon with more.
