iPhone Screen & Battery Replacement
I use an iPhone 11. It's currently in the 5th year of use. I love old products and I make my gadgets last. I'm not a great fan of planned obsolescence, which is a thing these days.
My iPhone battery, after over 4 years, had degraded such that it wasn't lasting through the day anymore. I was making do with this, like many people do, by carrying a power bank with me at all times. It was nuisance, but a necessary one.
It was when I dropped my phone and cracked the screen that I had to fix it up. The crack wasn't actually that bad, aesthetically, as it was a hairline fracture that was pretty much invisible. However it affected the functioning of the screen, creating ghost touch effects which was very annoying and actually dangerous. I found my phone randomly trying to buy things all by itself for example 😂. It even initiated a phone call without me doing anything. That was when I had to take action.
I decided to change both the screen and the battery at the same time, and to do it myself. I've actually got an engineering (electronics) degree from decades ago, so I was already comfortable with opening electronics, soldering, etc.. but it'd been so long so I was just as reluctant as anyone :)
The process took a while, since it was the first time I'd opened an iPhone 11, but It would probably take me less than 10 minutes next time. In fact, I've since done a battery change for a friend that took a faction of the time.
My phone's been given a new lease of life for now. I no longer have to carry a power bank and the screen, albeit not as beautiful as the original, no longer acts up. I highly recommend doing something like this before forking out hundreds of pounds for a new device that is designed to die after a year of light use.
