Continuing with the beer chat, and back on home turf! I met my dad for a couple of drinks yesterday afternoon, so what and where did we partake?

We went to a Wetherspoons first off for a couple. I know, people have mixed feelings about this chain but I like it overall. Great prices, the beer is always good and they have some interesting buildings where some are housed.

This was the Imperial in Exeter and is one of my favourite of all 'Spoons due to its size and style. Great for students and 'older' folk alike… this particular pub is right between the college and the uni, so you can imagine where I spent a lot of my college days (plus a few more days in later years ;))

A Wainwright and an Abbot there. The Wainwright was a fairly light golden beer and the Abbot from Greene King Brewery (not pictured) was a bit darker, fuller bodied and stronger at 5%. We didn't actually have the Wicked Wolf, will have to check that out another time!

Then we went to a more classic pub - The Ship. We got a nice table, pleasant atmosphere and sampled a ruby red ale; a Hanlon's (local brewery) offering called Red Rose. I'm not too sure about red beers overall but this slipped down nicely… could have gone for a second if we weren't on the move.

Let's see what else the weekend has in store - have a great one!
